Description

This is a fine example of a Goodell Pratt manufactured “Fulton Special”It’s the same as Goodell Pratts model number 420 10”sweep bit brace. It is considered to be one of the best quality brace’s Goodall Pratt had to offer, very smooth ratchet. This on is even more hard to find with the optional Octagonal Chuck. This brace was patented by Goodell Pratt on Dec 27 1892. The patent number is 488,691, see photo of actual patent info. It has a fully boxed ratcheting mechanism with the reversing control being an eye hook on the underside of the ratchet housing. It works very nicely. It is listed a a “B” rarety in Peterson’s “American Patented Brace” which means no more than 20 were found by the time on publication. The brace has other premium features like Bolivian Rosewood Handles, steel clad roller bearing head, a sweep handle that runs on adjustable steel collars and a patented “clothes pin” spring type jaws. It is a fairly early model Circa 1920 to 1930, nice condition for nearly 100 years old. Will last another lifetime with normal maintenance. Fine collectible user in very good working condition. One of my hobbies has been woodworking, but never had the time to do it as well as would like. A few years ago I became passionate about using vintage hand tools vs. battery or electric powered whenever it made sense to do so. Today my passion still thrives and I enjoy properly oiling/waxing, cleaning or refurbishing, if needed those same vintage woodworking tools. My goal is to place as many of these high quality, made in the USA vintage hand tools back into the hands of today’s craftsmen. I would never “part out” a good tool just for the proceeds. If the tool I have acquired is serviceable I will put it into as good of condition it can be and sell to friends or on eBay. All I am trying to do is receive some compensation for my time and retain enough capital to be able to purchase more tools, some in need of gentle care.
