I believe that it could be restored to working order if you have these two skills or know someone who does (Welding & tapping cast iron) There is a video on you tube of one of these being restored. I am not an expert on these but from what I can tell from visual inspection is as follows. Due to the rarity of this piece I would not attempt a repair unless you are an expert at cast welding. it would be a shame to ruin it. The handle needs a new bolt and a cast iron weld at the end,. One of the spokes on the wheel is broken and will just need a cast iron weld. 5th picture. The more challenging repair can be seen on top by the handle, There will need to be a cast weld and threaded hole and also a screw will need to be acquired. This mechanism seems to be what allows the drill bit to descend as it is being turned. 6th, 7th ,8th pictures. It needs a drill bit This what I can see.. It is sold as pictured as is.
