An EXTRA CLEAN EARLY BEARDED SPLITTING MAUL OF UNUSUAL FORM. This splitting maul head, which is not marked with a maker name, has a chamfered hammer type poll and a short hatchet blade. It is marked only with the designation "28", on the underside of the hammer poll. The head weighs 3 pounds, 1 ounce and it is 7 1/2 inches in length with a 3 3/4" cutting edge, but none of these values suggests what the "28" marking might reference. Length = 7.50 Inches (Ref.
