Early mid 18th century brass pipe tamper. Rare to find the much disliked Tax Collector standing with outstretched hand. Well fed fat man portrayed. Heavy piece for it's size. Stands 1 & 1 /2" tall. I am a 3rd generation early American hearthware and utilitarian collector. Many of these items have been in the collection for decades. My Grandfather began the collection, my father continued, as have I.
