Rare C.A. Williams Roofing / Lathing Hatchet Skowhegan, Maine Vintage lathing, shingling, roofing, traders hatchet made in Skowhegan, Maine by The Williams Tool Co. This is stamped with a hard to read partial stamp that would read, C.A. Williams & Co.” Part of the stamp is not readable but enough can be seen to identify the hammer brand as C.A. Williams. Charles A. Williams founded The Williams Tool Co. foundry in Skowhegan, Maine in the 1860’s and hatchets were added to their product line around 1889 until 1900. The hatchet is 12-1/2” long with a 5-1/2” head. The hammer face is 1-1/8” diameter. The blade is 2” long. This weighs 1 pound 4 ounces total weight on the dial scale. The hatchet head has a nail slot built in. The handle is bad condition as shown. Additionally, there is a crack at the head collar base as pointed out on an attachment. With the bad handle and cracked housing, this hatchet is sold as a collectible. C.A. Williams hatchets are hard-to-find or rare.
