Description

Rare Antique Iron Cutting Tool Blacksmith-Forged For Shingles? Leather? Horses? Okay experts, what's this? Appears to be a blacksmith-made, hand-forged antique iron knife or splitting tool of some kind. Looks to me like you held it on the curled end and hammered the knife-end through something. Also looks to me like the hammer blow was directed above the knife blade. The knife is sharp enough it could probably cut you today. Opinions so far have been that it was used for splitting shingles, cutting leather, or used somehow in horseshoeing. What do you think it was used for? I'd love to hear. I purchased it at an antique farm sale. Lots of early stuff at that auction. The piece measures just over 8 inches long and is roughly 2 inches tall. It's heavy at just about 10 and 1/2 oz. Thickest part is about a half-inch. I searched through similar items on eBay and found nothing exactly like this. Tried Google Lens and found no matches there. Condition: Has a little corrosion like you would expect on any barn find.
