RARE! Unique Vtg/Antique Whitcher # 4 Union Cobbler's Lasting Pliers Hammer Patented Oct 25, 1887 You are bidding on a VERY RARE & UNIQUE pair of lasting pliers made by WHITCHER (see pics). The reason these are so rare and unique is because of the curled up finger hold at the bottom of the one handle (see pics). What makes these pliers even more unique is the steel piece attached to the finger hold on the back (see pics). This has to be a factory applied item, because when you look at my last 3 pics you can see this steel piece is attached with two pins and braze welded also! Then you have a dome head screw that's threaded into the steel piece for some reason?? And finally there's a hole in the bottom of the steel piece, maybe for holding a piece of wire? And the screw holds in place?? Not really sure at all? As you can see the checkered face hammer head screws off if needed. The pivot point is still pretty tight, with just a bit of play. The teeth on both jaws look hardly used!! The tool is not broken or repaired (see all pics). The pliers weigh in at 1 pound 1.8 oz. The pliers are 9-1/2" long. NOTE: If anyone knows any info on these old lasting pliers with the added piece on the handle, I would love to know why it's there? Thanks!
