Description
RARE Lewis Patent Corebox Plane. Measuring 10 7/8" long, 7 3/8" wide, and this weighs 5 lbs 7 oz unboxed. Elisha Lewis of Philadelphia, PA was granted Pat. No. 60,206 on Dec. 4, 1866 for the design of this tool. There is an 11 stamped on the sole which probably is the serial number. This is in as found, but decent condition, but it does look like it was cleaned previously. The sole has some spots of light pitting, scratches, and some staining. The top has some japanning on it along with some light funky. The head does rotate and I did put some penetrating oil in the hole. The gear does have some wear in the center, but the adjuster works. The blade is hand forged and that screw works as well. The fence screws also work. The tote is broken off, but that won't be too difficult to repair or replace. Needless to say, that this is a very rare tool, I can only find one other online from a now closed tool dealer. The price includes shipping, insurance, and signature required. A great must have addition to any collection of American patented planes for sure! All items for sale unless otherwise noted are purchased and in most cases professionally restored by me. I take pride in offering quality items. Not everything is perfect, but it is as I say it is. Also, I smoke a pipe, drink whiskey, both cheap and good, and cuss more in a hour than most folks do in a month. If any or all of the above bother's ya, well then we ain't got no reason to be doing business. RULES OF THE GAME 2023 EDITION - READ ME! NO BEST OFFERS I am happy to combine shipping on purchases.
