Description
I have an antique Birmingham Plane co. B plane for sale. I believe it is a number 4 but it isn't marked number 4. I recently found this plane, it is very clean and looks restored although I did not restore this one. The sole jappaning looks shinny and may have been restored also? Im not sure. It has a label on it that I can't verify to correctness that has oct 22 1889, which I think maybe correct as they were not around for very long. I am not a B plane collector and so my knowledge is limited. I cleaned and removed the frog on this plane and noticed that there are 2 washers on each holding screw, they maybe replacement screws that are longer? The frog adjusts well. The cap is in good working condition. There is a small amount of wood loss on the tote. I added a small washer to the inside of the tote to give it some more tightening strength as the nut sits a little lower in the tote. The tote has been broken and repaired at some time.. the repair is hard to see. The iron has had some use and toward the end of its life. That being said, it is all there and in good condition considering its age.. think this is an old restored plane that has sat for a while in a collection... maybe restored in the past 20 years. Again I am sorry that I dont have more info on this plane, due to lack of knowledge... as I never find them. A rare and collectable tool. Thank you for looking. I have other tools for sale in my Ebay store (Manning Antique and Vintage Tools) and can often combine shipping to keep shipping cost lower. Thank you. NOTE: if you do have more info on this plane, please drop me a line, any info is appreciated.
